Maintenance & Longevity

How to Double the Lifespan of Your Safety Cover

A custom safety cover represents a significant investment in home safety. By adhering to a few seasonal precautions and preserving proper water chemistry during off-seasons, you can easily extend your cover's functional lifespan to 15 or even 20 years.

The Three Golden Rules of Care

1

Never let water levels fall too low. The pool water itself supports heavy snow loads on the cover. Keep water no more than 18 inches below deck level.

2

Check spring tension monthly. Loose springs allow the cover to scrub back and forth against abrasive coping, rapidly wearing down corner panels.

3

Wash salt or chlorine away before storing. Cured salt crystals from salt chlorinator decks will weaken poly fibers over a hot summer in a storage bag.

Off-Season Protection

Chemistry Lifespan Optimizer

Water chemistry under a dark, stagnant winter cover operates differently. Enter your winterizing target levels to verify if your water is safe or aggressive for woven poly yarns and springs.

Current Winterizing Water State

Water balance matters: Acidic or heavily oxidized winter environments break down the sewing thread, leading to localized strap separation under massive snow.

Optimal chemistry. Fabric and metal spring straps are well protected from rapid oxidation.

Next Steps to Protect Your Cover:
Keep doing what you are doing! Maintain pH between 7.2-7.6 and free chlorine under 3.0 ppm for a 15+ year cover lifespan.

Seasonal Care Action Plan

Four simple adjustments throughout the year to protect your cover and guarantee clear pool water.

FALL

The Closing Preparation

Blow out all leaves from pool coping before snapping the cover. Tighten the strap springs so they sit halfway compressed—providing rigid protection.

WINTER

Snow & Ice Management

Do not shovel snow or chop ice on the cover. If water collects on a Solid Safety cover, ensure your pool-top utility pump runs to prevent extreme weight sagging.

SPRING

Early Algae Defense

Warm spring sun feeds algae through mesh covers. Peel back a corner and add a gallon of liquid chlorine in early April before opening.

SUMMER

Washing & Storing

Hose off dirt and salt. Let dry completely to prevent mold. Store in the original mesh bag, hanging in a garage to prevent rodent chewing.
